When I thought the T230 Celica and the 8th gen Cougar were badge engineered/platform mates.

Kinja'd!!!

Blandly styled FWD coupes.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

They seem kinda like they were separated at birth to me.

That’s a justified guess. They look pretty similar.

There was a time where I didn’t understand badge engineering and I just thought that “wow, all of these companies are totally copying each other! Surprising there isn’t some huge lawsuit”. This was in reference specifically to all of the GM versions of their mini van in the early 00's. That would be the Chevy Venture + Olds Silhouette + Pontiac Montana. That is the GM "U" Platform.

I lusted like crazy after the New Edge Cougar when it came out, and the subsequent redesign was even better. Then I drove one (admittedly it was a well-neglected example) and lost my passion. Still like the design, but they have their issues. I was hoping for a more luxurious Probe/MX-6 with more Euro flair, and got a Euro-edged car that was neglected by the brand and salespersons, and didn't receive meaningful updates to stay relevant in a shrinking niche.
